This is probably the coolest trailer I have EVER seen. I can’t tell where reality stops and CGI begins. It’s kind of a trailer for their Radio Soulwax thing! And you know what? It worked! I’ve been listening to (and sometimes watching) Radio Soulwax for the last few hours and I’m loving it! I love the way you can see the entire process of existing music being transformed into new audio ...
Usually I don’t like video’s that feature excessive dancing but on this occasion I’m totally sold. I’m a sucker for the combination of hard beats, cool 3D match-moving and the elegance reflecting in the dancing. This needs no further explanation. It’s perfect.
Another week, another clip. This one comes from another production company I have never heard of: Spy Films. It’s actually supposed to be a stereoscopic 3D ad which will be shown in theatres. The focus here is the magical blending of what is real and what is CGI. Add a deep voice, an emotional poem, some dramatic soundscapes and mindblowing slowmotion and you got yourself a 60 second ad that has you completely taken in. I love it because it looks so real and so fake, all at the same time. The calm and romantic lighting versus the exploding foreground results ...
Holy cow! It’s monday already! And boy, do I have a clip to start the week! It’s massively awesome! Alfred ImageWorks made a game trailer for JCE‘s Freestyle 2, which is a game I have never heard of. This trailer looks awesome. It features great effects, realistic lighting, very cool movements, motion capturing, some great music and an overload of badass-ness… Everything is in place to make sure one is interested in the actual game. The amount of detail in the clip is off the charts. That’s what sells the piece. The quality actually reminds me of Toy Story. And that’s ...
I had a great clip lined up for this week and then this morning I came across this on Vimeo. It’s a rebrand for BT Vision. It’s playful, colorful, fresh, young and it doens’t feel like it’s just some random stuff that’s been put together. ManVSMachine really did a great job making this look very real while using lots of CGI. It doesn’t feel 3D. I absolultely love it!
Normally I post these on monday but since I was crazy busy yesterday, I didn’t get around posting this one. However this one will make up for it! It’s a perfect blend of video and cartoon. It feels very organic. The style reminds me a bit of the one you can see in some of the episodes of The Animatrix. The quality of the piece is extraordinary. The colors, the animation, the soundtrack, the cuts: It’s all in perfect harmony. Everything feels just right. I love this piece!
Today’s clip is called Formica, which is Italian for ant. That’s what this clip is about: Ants. It is actually a simple camera shot of some ants. As it turns out this was just a tiny test project. The result however is rocking! Sweet and fresh colors, lovely play of depth of field and ants working away like crazy. I tend to be fascinated by how ants work. I don’t know why. I just am. What makes this piece so special is the massive amount of detail Laurent added to the scene. It’s a mix of funny characters and sketchy clouds, ...
Let’s start this week by being in awe. Check out this reel by Frank Beltrán. It’s all about taking existing photography concepts and techniques, and applying them in video. The result is amazing. I’m pretty intrigued by how the recurring infinite spirals are done! It looks amazing! (here’s a little behind-the-scenes). I myself have been playing with the ‘little planet’ effect quite a lot (for example here), but Frank’s demoreel makes it clear that he completely mastered those techniques. And that’s what demoreels are for: Showing what you’re made off and you, sir Frank Beltrán, seem to be made of solid ...
Yes, I know, it’s been a while since I posted a cool/interesting/inspiring video on monday. Lots of stuff has happened: I moved to a new server (which led to lots of unexpected and unwanted downtime), I had to head out of town for about a month to work at a full-time non-computer related job. And I wanted to have a life for a few weeks, which was nice . All that lead to no motion on monday. However I’m back, so let’s do this! To make up for the silence of the past weeks, I’ve got something very cool. For ...
You might have noticed that MTV changed their logo and with that, they got some new Idents and boy, oh boy, do I love them. My favorite is by far Closing & Caring, created by the German company Sehsucht. Other Idents were created by The Mill, blacklist TV & ilovedust! If you want a sneek peak on how this was created, check the behind the scenes Happy 30th birthday, MTV! You still look smashingly awesome.
This piece was originally conceived as a part of CG set for a commercial spot about hamburgers throughout recent American history. However, the potential also existed for the set to be the stage for a visual exploration in lighting, composition, and cinematography. So the assets were repurposed to try and achieve that goal. The lighting was originally intended to evoke a sense of an old game show stage after hours, think Price Is Right Showcase after the lights have gone down. Although it did evolve, it should still capture that low-lighting feeling. Loving the atmosphere here and the soundtrack is just ...
A friend of mine made this video in an attempt to get back the love of his life. FreyLove from Lifelines on Vimeo. “This video is dedicated to the love of my life, Freyja. She broke up with me a couple of days ago because she wanted a new direction in her life and the feelings for me were burned out. I wanted to let her know that whatever that direction is, i want to be a part of it. And those feelings she had, they can return. The footage has been shot random over the years on times we spend with each other. Hopefully ...
